Unparalleled Greatness

Last night in the NCAA National Championship game the whole country got to witness something that will never be seen again in college basketball. Unrivaled, unequivocal greatness in every area of the game. The 2007 Florida Gators National Championship team will be remembered in history as the single greatest team ever to step onto a college basketball court. Go on and doubt me like you have all year when I was singing the praises of these guys. Go ahead and talk about North Carolina like Dick Vitale did, go on and extoll the incredible Kansas Jayhawks like every writer at ESPN.com, and by all means tell me about the unstoppable Greg Oden, who as long as he stays out of foul trouble will dominate the game and lead Ohio State to a national championship. Please do. If you watched the game last night you saw five players that played better than any college team has ever played, and you can deny it all you want but you know I’m right.

Brewer, Noah, and Horford are all future NBA superstars, mark my words these guys are going to take their respective teams to the next level and years from now they’ll be talking about this Florida team. Wheaties knows, that’s why they’re giving the Gators the first ever cover of their cereal box for a collegiate hoops team. No team will ever be as good as this team was.

This team had it all, the three point shooting, the inside presence, the defense, the ability to run the court, everything. There has never been another team that could do everything this tean did, and do it as well. Horford by himself would be a monster in the middle, but they had Joakim Noah too. Just Taurean Green would have been an absolute juggernaut from long range that would have given any coach headaches, but he also had Brewer and Humphrey. How do you prepare for a team like this? No matter what you do on offense or defense they will beat you. This team had no weakness. None. We will never, I repeat never, see a team with the talent, the coaching and the skills that this team had, I promise you that. In five years we’ll be marveling at Corey Brewer leading his team to the playoffs facing off against his former teammates Joakim Noah and Al Horford and Taurean Green, all of whom have led their respective teams to new found prominence. And the experts will say, “No wonder that Florida team won the title back in 2007, these guys are amazing.”

I know I’m biased, but I know unbelievable talent when I see it and these guys have it. This team is better than any team in the past and better than any team that we’ll see for years to come, just you wait.
